WHY MISSIONS

“Mission” comes from the Latin word “missio,” meaning “to send.”  Jesus made the scope of missions very clear in Matthew 28:19-20 when he said, Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (NIV).

We at First Baptist Valdosta believe that mission work is the heartbeat of the Gospel.  Missions in the local church is partnering with God to spread the Gospel around the world, starting in our local community and extending to our state, our country and to the world.   At First Baptist we are a church that Loves God, Loves Others and Loves the World.

Our mission ministries give our people the privilege of going in the name of Jesus to take the Gospel to others.  Our mission ministries give our people the opportunity to love others with kindness, compassion and the forgiveness of our Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 4:32).   We challenge our people at First Baptist to support missions through their prayers and giving, but we also want to give everyone an opportunity to go on mission trips and share their faith with others.

Partnering with God on missions encourages and strengthens our church members and enables them to share their faith with confidence and make a positive difference in the lives of others.
