MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES

COMMUNITY MISSIONS

BIG A CLUB

The Big A Club provides underprivileged children in the Valdosta community with a week long summer experience of Bible Study while enjoying activities and fellowship in the neighborhood where they live.

DISASTER RELIEF

This team provides help and/or assistance, first and foremost, to First Baptist  Church members in the event  of natural disasters. They also give assistance wherever it is needed including traveling out of state to help survivors of hurricanes, tornadoes and flooding.  The Georgia Baptist Convention offers Disaster Relief training throughout the year at various locations.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE

This ministry is dedicated to the teaching of English to anyone whose native language is not English and to anyone who cannot read or write. We have trained teachers in adult basic reading. Trained tutors meet with students on a on a one-to-one basis since most adults do not want to be singled out as non-readers.  This ministry meets on Tuesday nights from 7:00-8:30 in our Adult Building-downstairs.

FOOD MINISTRY

The Food Ministry has become a lifeline for some families in our community.  Thanks to all who help support this ministry.  The Food Ministry operates each Monday and Saturday from 9AM to 12PM at the FBC Food Ministry building across the street from the Sanctuary on Toombs Street.  Those who volunteer for this ministry can serve in two primary areas; backroom preparation or client reception.  Call the church office if you would like to volunteer.

LILIES CLOTHING MINISTRY

Lilies operates each Monday from 9AM to 12PM and every second Saturday from 9AM to 12PM. Lilies is located on Central Avenue next door to the Family Life Center. There is a minimal cost for clothing. Volunteers and clothing donations are welcome. Call the church office for more information (229) 242-0484.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Habitat  for Humanity is a non-profit Christian housing ministry. It provides families a decent, affordable place to live which builds hope and lives. Habitat construction teams work Tuesday-Saturday each week.

Special builds such as “Houses of Faith” will work Saturday-Saturday.

Habitat For Humanity is one of our most rewarding ministries, simply because you can see the results almost immediately.  You do not have to be a carpenter in order to serve.  Many serve as go-for’s for the workers.  Food service and cleanup as well as painting and landscaping are just some of the options.  You can do a great service to the community and be a volunteer in the Lord’s work at the same time.

NIGHT TO SHINE

Night to Shine is an unforgettable prom night experience, centered on God’s love, for people with special needs, ages 14 and older. First Baptist Church Valdosta is proud to be an official host church for Night to Shine, held worldwide on February 7, 2020!

CHILDREN AND YOUTH MINISTRIES

VALDOSTA KIDS

We want an ever-growing number of children to visit our church, finding a place where they feel loved, safe, come to know Christ, and continue to grow through fun and life-changing experiences. We desire for children to be guided through purposeful experiences on and off of the FBCV campus where they learn how to use their spiritual gifts in ministry to others. We envision parents and children as a family, growing in their relationship with Christ. We have a vision to change our community to the good through making a significant difference in individual children’s lives and their families.

Valdosta Kids ministers to children — infant through 5th grade. Activities include Nursery, Sunday morning Children’s Worship (8:44 and 11:00), Small Group Bible study, AWANA on Wednesday night at 5:45PM, Worship Arts Ministry on Sunday night at 5:45PM.

WORSHIP ARTS MINISTRY

Worship Arts Ministry is a ministry designed to help children uncover their artistic and musical talents and put those talents to use for God’s glory.  We will learn songs as a large group, and then break into tracks taught by very qualified instructors.  This Fall we are offering tracks including Guitar, Art, Pottery/Ceramics and Advanced Music.

Ages 3—5th Grade

Sundays at 5:45PM

RESURGE STUDENT MINISTRIES

Resurge Student Ministries at FBCV serves 6th through 12th grade students.  Our goal is to refresh and revive heart for Christ through fun, fellowship, Bible study and worship.

Sunday Nights – 6:00 – 7:30

Sunday nights are high energy.  There are games, funny videos, theme nights; things get a little crazy.  And really fun.  We dig deep in God’s Word, and find that It intersects with our everyday life.  This is where we belong.  This is where we are at home.  This is where we can let our guard down, and start being real.

Wednesday Nights  – 6:00 – 7:00

Wednesday nights are where we go deeper.  We push each other, we challenge each other.  It’s the greenhouse if you will.  We still have fun, it’s still the same awesome fellowship we have with each other.  Really, you have to be here to experience it.

Resurge meets on the second floor of the Family Life Center. In addition to Sunday and Wednesday nights, students have the opportunity to get involved through activities like DNOW, Summer Camp, Youth on a Mission and much more.

MOM'S MORNING OUT

This ministry offers Moms childcare for their little ones so that they may run errands, keep appointments, etc.  The co-objectives include teaching children how to share and be kind to other children; learn to be secure in knowing parents will be away for short periods of time, but that the parent will always return for them. This ministry hopes to let young “Moms” know they have an outlet, free from worry; a place where children can stay for a minimal fee while they refresh and regroup in their important role as “Mom”.  This ministry is available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon, and the cost is $10.00 per child per day.  Please call (242-0484) to make reservations.

ADULT MINISTRIES

SONSHINE CLUB

The Sonshine Club is an integral part of the Senior Adult Ministry. Once a quarter, the club meets for a luncheon.  Birthdays for that month are celebrated and an interesting program is always presented.  Some months, the seniors will take a bus trip out of town where they will visit a nursing home and then go to a local restaurant that has been recommended for lunch and fellowship.

LIBRARY

The First Baptist Library provides church members an organized collection of print and non-print materials and is open on Wednesdays from 3:00-4:00 p.m. or can be accessed during church office hours during the week.  The library ministry works each Wednesday evening doing basic processing, cataloging and filing.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT PRAYER SERVICE

Every Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. following Wednesday night supper, our Family Life Center becomes a “House of Prayer.”  Everyone is greatly encouraged to make this midweek service a part of your schedule just like Sunday mornings. It is a wonderful thing to come together in the middle of the week to encourage one another and pray for one another.

GROW

G.R.O.W. ministry is an outreach program designed to reach out to our own church family as well as the community in which we live. G.R.O.W. stands for God Rewards Our Work. The objective of the G.R.O.W. outreach program is to encourage people to carry out the vision of evangelism and church growth through their own personal, spiritual pilgrimage. Various forms of outreach are exemplified through this ministry such as card writing/emails, phone calls, and visitation (assignment cards given to visit within the community).   Jesus’ commission in Matthew 28:19 was given to all believers. “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.”

PM G.R.O.W. meets each Sunday afternoon from 4:00PM – 5:30PM.

AM G.R.O.W. meets each second Tuesday of the month.

MISSIONS

HOME MISSIONS

Not only do we go on foreign mission trips, but we go on mission trips here in the U.S.  We have had the privilege of working on a number of churches.  Our members work hard and long hours to finish projects for the Baptist Mission Board.  The blessings that we receive are far greater than the sore muscles and injured thumbs.  You are invited to join us.  The trips are taken throughout the year.

FOREIGN MISSIONS

First Baptist has engaged in foreign missions for many years.  We have expanded our work to new countries. These experiences have been very rewarding. We have built churches in a number of countries and a home for displaced girls in Venezuela; given out shoeboxes in Africa; worked in Thailand in the Baptist Student Center.  Other countries we have been to are Austria, Guatemala, Honduras, Paraguay and Israel. These are a sample of some of the opportunities that we have had on the mission field.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD SHOE BOXES

The primary focus of this ministry is to gather shoe boxes filled with gifts for children of third world countries. We look for items that will bring them joy such as toys, candy, flashlights, caps, tee shirts, balls and many other things. Although this ministry is primarily done during the Christmas season, we accept gifts all through the year.

MUSIC MINISTRIES

CHANCEL CHOIR

The Music ministry is an integral part of First Baptist Church.  Children, Adults and Seniors join voices to sing praises to our Lord.  The choir ministry is always looking for new members.  If you like to sing, join us.  The Chancel Choir (adult choir) meets for rehearsal on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. and sings in the 11:00 a.m. Worship Service each Sunday.

MASTER'S RINGERS HANDBELLS

This ministry adds an additional musical dimension of handbells to honor God and to provide church members who have musical skills with an opportunity to lead the praise of Him in a special and unique way.  Members of this ministry use their unique musical talents to provide a time of quiet reflection before and during selected services each year. They help to train others who possess musical talents to participate and play for the praise of God and the worship of our church membership.

MEDIA TEAM

This ministry enhances church services by presenting to the congregation a projected music score that they may follow rather than requiring them to refer to a hymnal.  Norm Conant displays words for the music on the large screen for morning worship services in the main sanctuary.

Music and sound are coordinated by the 8:44 service technicians. Words are projected on the screen for all to see as they sing along.

PRESCHOOL AND GRADED CHOIRS

Children enjoy singing together in  the different levels.  The choir practice is capped off by a concert in the Big Church for all the church members and parents.  We make use of music in the training of our children so that they may become godly young men and women who will carry out the mission of the church as they grow in spiritual and physical maturity.  The children are picked up at various schools throughout the community and brought to the  church where they have a snack and time of playing before going to practice.  Preschool and Graded Choirs meet on Wednesdays and the age groups are from 3 years old-6th grade.

PRAISE TEAM

The praise team and band lead the contemporary service on Sunday morning.  They lead contemporary worshipers into the presence of God in an intimate worshipping relationship. They lead in an unabashed whole hearted act of adoration, praise, thanksgiving, and a “spirit-led” period of contagious celebration.

WOMEN’S MINISTRIES

WOMEN'S MISSIONARY UNION

The purpose of the WMU is to know God better through His Word and study about missions.  It provides the women of First Baptist an opportunity to study the Bible at a convenient time. These ministries meet in individual homes and at church at different times of the day and night. There is a WMU group that is suited for you.  Celebrate God’s blessings by becoming a member.

MOM'S NEXT

MOMSNext is a wonderful ministry striving to meet the needs of moms with school-age children kindergarten-12th grade. As children enter the school years, mothers are faced with new challenges and issues, but the need for community, spiritual growth, and connection remains, for this reason MOMSnext has been added as an extension of our women’s ministry here at FBC Valdosta. MOMSnext is designed to encourage, equip and develop mothers of school age children. It is an open, accepting place for all mothers of school-age children to come, just as they are with no judgment.

At FBC we encourage moms to be a part of something bigger than themselves – part of an organization that believes that a mom who knows Jesus, changes her world! It’s a way of connecting women with other moms who can encourage and inspire her, transforming her into a better mom, and showing her that she is not alone. Mom give of themselves, their time, their love, their energy. This will be a place for moms to receive. Receive the gifts of other moms’ stories and God’s guidance letting them know that they are not alone. A space to relax and breathe, and to laugh out loud at the antics of our kids.

MOMSNext meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:00 in the Adult Education Building, Room 207, beginning this Fall and continuing throughout the school year. For more information contact Sherry Kurpis at sbkurpis@gmail.com or contact the church office.

LOU DEMIE MEIN BIBLE STUDY

This is a ministry that enhances its member’s knowledge of the Bible through study. The ministry recognizes the importance of remembering our missionaries in the field; the children in the local Hispanic Baptist Church and those Baptist students enrolled at Valdosta State University.  Meets on the 1st Monday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in the Adult 4 Sunday School Department (in the main church building).

THURSDAY EVENING BIBLE STUDY

This ministry is dedicated to Bible study and meets in various homes on a regular basis. This ministry provides members and guests of First Baptist the opportunity to have fellowship and study various topics from the Bible. The leadership is voluntary and the group meets once a month on the third Thursday at 7:00 p.m.

GOD'S ROSES

This ministry recognizes that the loss of a husband causes great emotional and possibly physical turmoil. Coping with this loss often requires the support and comfort of others who have a shared a Christian belief.  These ladies also participate in community service projects.  This ministry meets once a month on the 2nd Monday from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.  in the Main Building.

TUESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY

Tuesday Morning Bible study uses teaching materials provided by various Bible study programs to better understand each book of the Bible.  This ministry provides an in-depth study of one book of the Bible at a time and meets from 9:30-11:00 a.m. in the Adult 4 Sunday School room (behind the church office).

HEART TO HEART

Heart-to-Heart Ladies Ministry is a new ministry aspiring to connect women of all ages in friendship, fellowship, and a deeper walk with the Lord. Our goal is to provide once a quarter activities for ladies to get together, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and enjoy the company of other women of faith. These once a quarter activities might include things like dinners, conferences-like Beth Moore or Women of Faith, shopping trips, etc. The possibilities are endless!
